Cap’n Pat on the Chesapeake Bay
We were woken around 8:30 am by the wake of a couple of freighters passing by our anchorage. One down-bay bound and the other being tugged into Delaware City.
The tide was high and we had over slept some, but after the day we’d had on the Delaware yesterday, neither of us was about to complain. We had coffee and set off on the last leg of this journey at 9:31 am. Our anchorage was right at the mouth of the C&D Canal, so in we went, motoring west towards the Chesapeake Bay, emerging three hours, twenty minutes later, where we began motor sailing. After clearing Turkey Point, the wind freshened up and we shut down the Yanmar and sailed on for the rest of the day – in the direction we wanted to go, even!

We sailed on until just before sunset when the winds finally gave out. We furled, flaked and bagged the sails and packed the boat as we motored on towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, passing under about 7:31pm. We rounded the point, headed up the Severn River towards Annapolis. When we came into Spa Creek, we were greeted by the whole fleet of theAnnapolis Boat Show. It was amazing – as if the whole town showed up just to welcome us home! We radioed the Bridge, made the opening, and tied up to Tilson’s slip without any fanfare.

While this last day was ideal – boy are we sure glad this trip is over!
