Have you noticed our advertising? When I put up this site, I added advertising as a way to help offset my out-of-pocket expenses for hosting this site. Not getting rich or anything, actually not really offsetting costs much at all, but every little bit helps. That said, I don’t get to decide which ads are […]
My Next Project Boat
Speaking of projects, perhaps this could be my next boat!
The Next Project
I’m getting ready to begin the next project – constructing a new bowsprit for Nereus. On deck, currently, is the original one, laminated at the Westsail factory in 1973. It’s lived a good long life, but dry rot is beginning to take its toll. We’ve already “saved” it once and sailed a long way with it, […]
Cruising Bucket List
Sorting through my email and I found an article by Clark Beek on SailFeed.com about what he feels are the “top-ten” cruising destinations in the world. It is a veritable cruising bucket list of destinations to use as waypoints on a chart to chase after. I enjoyed the list and am adding them to my own bucket […]
A Cruiser’s Charity?
A Cruiser’s Charity? This is a borrowed photo from the facebook page of fellow Westsailor, Terry Shoup. I don’t know it’s origins, but it stirred fond memories of life aboard Nereus and all the “meals” I pumped out, so I figured it worth sharing. It made me laugh. If you are unsure, this device is a […]
Paper Charts – Stepping Away from Tradition
What is it about paper charts and navigation? As “modern” Americans, we are attached to our electronic leashes like never before. I am NEVER without my trusty iPhone, as it is my clock, my map, my phone, my computer, and so much more. If you don’t think Steve Jobs hasn’t changed the world, take a […]
I think I am Crazy
I think I am definitely crazy. I’ve been thinking of something . . . unusual. After my holiday vacation home where I made my little side trip last week to see my buddy, Flip, aboard the Westsail 43, Katura, I’ve had this little bug in the back of my mind. I’m having a hard time shaking it. […]
Latitudes and Attitudes
Finally got around to scanning/PDFing/uploading the article in the “Press” section I wrote for the now-defunct-but-soon-to-be-revived Latitudes and Attitudes Magazine. The Article appeared in issue #123, August 2010. Visit our Press section here.
Westsail Family Friends
During a family trip home, I was able to make a side trip to Crescent Shores Marina in Holland, MI (where we stayed during our Voyage of a Life Time trip) to see my friends Flip & Pam Mulliner of the Westsail 43, Katura. Great to see them again and it is always great to […]
More Parts
Add’l Parts: Here’s my new Garmin 17x HVS, a NMEA 0183 networked GPS. It can be installed under the deck and feed straight into into of those little Actisense boxes I posted yesterday. Here’s the info from Garmin: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8630&ra=true. I got mine from GPS City, which is right here in Las Vegas, for a lot less: http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-oem-17x-hvs-nmea-0183.html
