Guess what it is…
One Project Down…
One Project Down… well, many, many more to go. But hey, it’s a boat. New anchor locker bulkhead. The old mahogany plywood was all rotted out, as stated in previous posts. A friend had some high-end, 3/4 inch marine-grade plywood (in other words, very expensive) and we used half a sheet to make this. It […]
Construction
After Nereus had spent so much time in not-so-dry storage in Alabama, dry rot had set and the forward bulkhead completely delaminated. It’s a project I’ve been putting off, but the time has come to fix it. I removed the old bulkhead (not too hard as it came out in pieces) and am working up […]
Fleet Week Celebratory Sailing
In honor of Fleet Week and welcoming the Navy to San Pedro for festivities, we did what every cruising sailor who likes to be alone would do: we left. We set sail Saturday late morning, deciding to head out to Catalina, where we knew our chances of picking up a mooring were slim and […]
This is what happens…
You attempt to varnish in the morning before finishing your first cup of coffee.
Back in the Port
A lot has been happened aboard Nereus. First, we’ve moved back to Yacht Haven, and as such are back in the Port of Los Angeles. Things at our marina in Marina Del Rey began deteriorating quickly and my daughter wasn’t coming to the boat much any more, so I decided to go back where the bathrooms are […]
Coming Along
Hatch project is coming along nicely. Faced it with new teak (OMG is that expensive!). A couple coats of varnish on already. All I want to do it put a grab bar on the front end to help ease opening and closing from deck (nothing to grab on that end) and a shinny finish coat […]
Our with Old (and rotted)
The plywood under the companion way hatch was in pretty bad shape. I had this idea that I’d remove all the teak and replace the plywood. After reinstalling the teak, it’d be good as new! The problem was it took a special tool to break through it — namely my foot. I guess using […]
Made it
Made it safely to our new home in Marina del Rey, CA. Quite excited, but exhausted. Will have a write up and photos after I get back to Vegas this evening.
Almost Ready to Go!
Mainsail came out of the sale locker with a significant amount of mildew on it. Spent the morning scrubbing that with a brush. It’s showing it’s age. However, the boat’s coming together and we’re gonna be ready to go. We are moving to Marina del Rey on Wednesday!
