Comments: A proven cruiser with all of Bud’s major upgrades. The history of this boat is long and varied. The original owner owned the boat a short time and the second owners had the boat for 25 years, having sailed the whole west coast from Washington to the Panama Canal. The current owner purchased this boat twenty years ago, trucked it to Chicago and sailed the Great Lakes, the east coast, and the Gulf of Mexico. Both owners have lived aboard the boat at various times during its illustrious career. Now we are passing it along for you to plot your own adventures. Located in Ventura, CA, this boat can take you to the Channel Islands or across the Pacific. Any where you want to go, Nereus will take you safely and in comfort.

Accommodations: Nereus is a modified factory boat. Coming down the companion way, the typical “puzzle piece” steps and engine room enclosure have been replaced with an engine room door and a ladder. As expected, a stand-up nav station is to starboard and a U-shaped galley is to port. There is a cabinet overhead of the refrigerator box and shelf forward of the nav station above the wet locker. Moving forward, you’ll find the usual starboard-side pilot berth has been removed, opening up the settee with an entertainment center to starboard. There is a chart storage locker underneath the entertainment center. The usual dinette to port has been converted into a L-shaped dinette with the fold-up table attached to the refrigerator box. This really opens up the cabin. In fact, at one Westsail Rendezvous, we had 10 people aboard for dinner! There is a Balmar (Sigmar) diesel heater on the bulkhead next to the dinette keeping the whole boat warm and dry – it is gravity fed from the main diesel tanks. Forward of the main bulkhead, you’ll find the usual dresser/cabinet to starboard and head with shower pan to port. The V-berth is forward with cushion insert, making the whole v-berth one big bed.

Lighting through out is ABI 12V red/white fixtures and ABI 120V electric lights with a florescent lights in the head, galley, and engine room.

Deck & Hull: No teak decks to worry about. The entire top-sides were painted with Awl-grip in 2014. Non-skid is “medium” grit in the paint. Topside wood is varnished, including the beautiful mahogany rudder cheeks. Bowsprit was replaced with Bud’s Stainless bowsprit in 2013 and the boomkin was replaced with Bud’s stainless boomkin with radar arch and stainless rail tubing in 2014, making the cockpit very secure. Navigation lights are on teak boards in the rigging and there is an optional tai-color light at the masthead. There are 10 original ABI round port lights as expected with new gaskets. There is a traveler over the companion way forward of the dodger for mainsheet control. The dodger with weather cloths and Bimini cover are in the process of being replaced. New teak hand-holds have been installed. There is a teak hatch over the V-berth and the sliding companion way hatch was rebuilt in 2015.

Aft on the boomkin are a round Magma BBQ, two 20lb propane tanks with covers & solenoid, and a Cape Horn self-steering wind vane.
